A Question of Care: A Career for you?

Do you enjoy seeing people get the most out of each day and achieve what they want in life? This is what a career in care is all about! It might mean working with babies and young children, young people and adults when they need extra help.

Try this interactive video challenge ‘A Question of Care: a Career for YOU’ to see what a career in care is like. At the end you’ll receive a detailed personal profile that tells you if you’ve got what it takes.

Is the Personal Assistant (PA) role right for you?

A PA supports an individual to live more independently, usually in their own home. Working as a PA can be a very rewarding career and there are lots of opportunities to progress.

As a PA you’ll work directly with one or more individuals to support them with various aspects of their daily life. This could be in their own home, in the community, at leisure or at work.

Why not check out the ‘Skills for Care Personal Assistant Toolkit’, It explains more about the role and why it’s a great job.

The advantages of being a PA

Job satisfaction
Because a PA is employed directly by the individual, you’ll support for the time they need, and tasks can be done well without the need to rush off. This also means you can build a longer-term professional relationship with your employer.

Flexible
Individual employers might need support with different parts of their life, at different times of the day, which means PAs can find a job with hours to suit when they are able to work, around your other commitments.

Variety
There are opportunities to provide a wide range of support for different individual employers, who want or need different things. PAs could also work with someone who has the same interests as them.

Attractive pay and employment conditions
As a PA you can often be better paid than working through an agency and are more likely to have permanent working hours.
